My Students

My school is a TITLE I school located in an economically disadvantaged area. My classes are comprised of K-5 science students with a myriad of learners. Some students are general education, students with disabilities and ENL students. My students are tactile learners and love to use all of their senses to get involved in our science lessons.

Although labels have been placed on these young learners, they rise above the stigma that has been placed on them due because of our school being located in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood.

Now that we are in a pandemic, the need to support all learners is greater than ever before.

I am continuously blown away by my student’s dedication to getting their work done and fully participating remotely as best as they can. They don't complain, they strive to continue to succeed and truly show themselves to be the best of what our school has to offer. They are supportive of each other and remind me that this is only temporary and we will be together again. They have shown themselves to be true leaders and with each day they grow more and more.

My Project

My goal is to be able to continue to deliver high quality education that the students can see, feel and experience as much as possible. The iPad is portable and ideal for commuting. I plan to do just that- Carry the iPad with me as I take my students on educational lessons outside of my very door (with social distance of course).

Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun.

Having a device that it is easy to carry will allow me to take the students 'outside' and use authentic nature to support our lessons. I plan to use the IPad to show them animals in their natural habitat like the brand new baby chicks that that are born or the new goslings walking behind their mothers to support our lower grade curriculum. Now instead of talking about what it looks like, I can show my kids in real time while the entire class participates together. I also plan to also use the IPad to conduct live experiments for the upper grade students. As we conduct the experiments, students can comment, ask questions and continue to be authentic scientists in our new class setting.

My goal is always to stretch my kids learning and to expose them to everything that a valuable and deserved education should be.
