Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of resilient and resourceful nine-year-olds who are severely underprivileged but have so much potential to succeed in society.
Many of my students are English Language Learners, Emergent Bilinguals, and Newcomers who recently moved to the USA.
My ELL students struggle to adjust to living in a new country while simultaneously learning to speak, read, and write in a new language. They learn the best when they can experience individualized and engaging activities to supplement my whole class instruction.
My ELL students face an opportunity gap from the lack of technology in their lives. Providing these Tablets will differentiate their independent work, help my students learn to be tech-savvy, and ultimately improve their chances of lifelong success!
My Project
My ELL students will use the Tablets throughout the day in every subject area.
My English Language Learners need access to Tablets throughout the day to increase their engagement and improve their chances of long-term academic success!
During Reading, students will use the Tablets to explore instructional programs which teach the fundamentals of reading in English. They will also listen to audio books and participate in individualized online word study programs, thereby increasing their acquisition of academic language.
My ELL students will use the Tablets during Writing to research and dictate persuasive essays. By using technology to express their own opinions, my ELL students will build their self-confidence and feel more comfortable participating in class. When students participate more in class, they will further develop their speaking and listening skills.
My students will also use the Tablets during differentiated Math instruction. They will participate in an online math program which explains math concepts using spatial-temporal modules, thereby bypassing the language barrier and allowing students to gradually gain understanding of complex mathematics at a natural and comfortable pace.
Overall, my ELL students will use the Tablets throughout the day in every content area in order to increase engagement, improve acquisition of academic language, build self-confidence, differentiate instruction, and ultimately improve their chances of long-term academic success!
