My Students
My 160+ 8th grade math students come to class with an enormous range of math skills and run the gambit from short to tall, focused to not-so-focused on school, free-and-reduced-price lunch to middle class, fun-loving to shy, and most of all, growing in so many ways!
Students need choices in their math experiences.
They need to be able to experiment with math ideas, master skills, and share their mathematical ideas with others. One size certainly does not fit all when it comes to math.
My Project
Students need to be able to play with mathematical concepts, hone their skills, and communicate mathematical ideas with others. With no technology in my classroom and limited access to school computer labs due to high demand, students have little opportunity to use technology to explore and advance their mathematical world.
Tablets will provide an additional tool for students to expand their mathematical horizons.
Using applications such as Desmos, Educreation, MobyMax, and FlipGrid will enable students to receive individualized instruction, demonstrate math understanding, and try out the "what ifs" of a mathematical equation.
Motivating 8th grade students can be a challenge and the use of tablets provides another avenue in the teacher toolbox.
