My average day in the classroom begins when I welcome my eighth-grade students including regular students, special education students and students with emotional needs. I want my students to succeed.
My students like to participate in the school drama club which is why I sponsor this activity.
I teach in a large, diverse, K-8, high poverty school in an urban area that experiences crime. Our school receives Title I funding, and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters or extended family living.
My students are the most eccentric, funny, and smart kids you would ever want to meet. Skill levels and overall level of support vary by student. Some of my students require additional academic support, and some require additional emotional support. One thing that is universal is our desire to work together.
On the first day of school, we identified ourselves as a family. We are a family that takes care of one another and looks out for one another. This is what we do. We work together to accomplish our goals.
My Project
Our classroom will be looking quite different when we return to our classroom in the future. Recently, due to the distribution of much of our technology from our school building, we are looking to rebuild our stock in the classroom. When we return, we will have a new tablet waiting for use when we complete our financial literacy intervention articles.
With this new technology, I want to add a pair of headphones for my students to use while completing their assignments.
This will aid my students in focusing on the task and tuning out distractions. Not only will our technology base need to be replenished, but I must focus on helping meet student's needs.
In addition, since we left so abruptly, all of our confidential documents are left in the classroom and will need to be properly destroyed before the start of a new school year. This new shredder will help us in getting the job done securely.
