I teach English Language Arts to a group of approximately 40 amazing, vibrant, exciting 7th graders at an extremely high needs urban middle school in New York.
A lot of my students have a history of behavioral problems or untapped potential, quite often related to disengagement in the classroom. These students do not respond to the traditional "talk and chalk" lesson. As their teacher, I work hard to adapt to their needs and provide them with what they need to become lifelong readers and writers.
Being part of the new, tech savvy generation, my students respond enthusiastically to the use of technology in the classroom. I have attended workshops and trained myself to use technology, and now the next step is to actually GET said technology. Simply put, we need one LCD projector, for use in our reading and writing workshop lessons. I have the abilities to integrate this technology into our classroom - I just don't have the actual technology yet!
By providing my classroom with an LCD projector, you will essentially be opening the door to my students' learning and success. These students have gobs of energy and untapped potential - I truly believe that by providing them with more technology in the classroom, I can grab their attention more effectively and turn them into voracious readers, effective writers, and lifelong students.
