"Mrs. V., my computer froze again!" "Mrs. V., my computer turned off for no reason!" "Mrs. V., my computer is doing something weird!" It's an almost daily occurrence in our classroom. I apologize to the children reminding them that the computers in our classroom are older than they are.
Our school sits in a small valley surrounded by rolling hills.
We are a high performing school. It is a great place to go to everyday.
My class is a second and third grade combo. My students are thoughtful, kind, and enthusiastic about learning. They are all high performing students. These are students who need to have curriculum that is enhanced, so they can explore a broader range of learning. Giving them daily access to computers allows me to enrich their learning experience.
My Project
We have a bank of six computers in our classroom. All of them are at least 8 years old. The Apple is 11 years old. We are happy to have computers, and yes, they still work, but barely. A new bank of computers has been a dream for years. These two new computers will be a start towards having that dream fulfilled. The first one to go will be the Apple.
Having access to current technology will make a huge difference in my students' lives.
We use the computers daily. We have lots of current educational software, but unfortunately the old computers won't run it. The children must all take a reading test every week on the computers. We also do stations every Friday and all of the students use the computers at stations. The children use the computers to write books reports and animal reports, and to make PowerPoint presentations about themselves. They make greeting cards to give to their little buddies.
Budget cuts have hit all schools very hard.
Because we are a high performing school, we are not eligible for funds that other schools may get. These computers have been in my classroom for too many years already. I would be very grateful to have the support of DonorsChoose.
