My students need Kindle Fire tablets with cases to practice their phonics skills, complete research for STEM projects, practice typing, read books, take Accelerated Reader quizzes just to name a few tasks.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching 1st grade at an inner city Title I school. I teach a self-contained class (all subjects). This is my ninth year teaching and my second year teaching second grade. I am super excited about this year of teaching and learning for my students. I'm so humbled and honored to be part of such an influential/important part of my students' and their family's lives. Our classroom is our home away from home where we listen, love, laugh and learn as a family!
My Project
Having access to mobile technology will afford my students an opportunity to become better at using technology while still learning. They would also be able to use the tablets in small group work time while collaborating on their tasks.
My students are assessed quarterly using Technology-based assessments; however, we do not have an adequate amount of practice and/or interaction with technology on a daily/weekly basis in our classroom.
I currently have over 20 students and only 5 classroom computers.
It is my heart-felt desire for my students to be able to read stories, practice their phonics skills, research, complete individual and group projects, take Accelerated Reader quizzes and not be unfamiliar with technology.
