Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school. The majority of my students come from low-income, single family dwellings. I have four students that were able to get financial aid scholarships to private schools. Their scholarships afford them the opportunity for access to these schools. However, that is all. Now the scholarships are substantial, don't get me wrong. It's just that now they will need to "keep -up" with the other students.
These four students are about to have their lives positively changed.
They are intelligent, hard-working, compassionate, and POOR. I have been fortunate to be able to get several students into these upper-level schools for many years, and I have had the pleasure of keeping in touch with their families. These past students have shown me that their sacrifices have paid off. However, the one obstacle that has remained constant is the fact that they have fallen behind due to a lack of funds for technology. I would love to be able to acquire for them laptops of some type because they have had to struggle without their own.
My Project
These iPads will enable these four students to have access to the same information and resources as their classmates. They cannot afford these "luxurious necessities" that will enable them to do the research and gather data that will be necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
I know this seems like overkill!
After all, they are getting scholarships! But they will still need extras in order to have the same resources at their disposal. These schools do not offer computers to their students, but assume they can get them on their own. That is far from being the case with these four kids. Please help by giving them the same opportunities as their future classmates.
