This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students often enter school without any previous exposure to school, books, or other children besides siblings and games. This makes using background knowledge difficult when connecting new concepts or attempting to build upon a prior vocabulary base.
My students are eager to learn and hunger for positive interaction.
They enjoy learning about things outside of their immediate environment. They have benefitted from my certified therapy dog visiting for reading sessions, hands-on experiences such as decorating cookies and making slime as well as many pictures, videos, and projects I've introduced into my classroom.
My students are ready to go to the next level in learning!
My Project
This type of technology will also allow for access to a wider array of therapy materials for all ages by making use of what's available on the internet and apps that are supported by google chrome. This greatly enhances my toolbox to keep intervention fun, new and engaging.
My older students often get left behind and left out because they can't construct complete sentences or they can't read adequately.
This piece of technology will allow them to learn what's available to them in an environment where it's ok to make mistakes and to take risks learning and practicing something new without the possibility of ridicule from their peers. I believe having access to a Chromebook will improve confidence and the quality of work that is turned in to their general education teachers.
