Help me give my students the opportunity to practice their research and essay writing. They have to take their standardized exams on a computer and many do not have access to them.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is in a low socioeconomic area of Miami, Florida. They are eager students who want to learn and have began exploring what they want to do with their lives. They are outspoken and always push me to be the best teacher I can for them.... they deserve it. My students and I can relate on many things. I connect with them because I too grew up in a low socioeconomic community (but in NY). We share in common that our families immigrated to the United States. I always stress to them that we keep it real in Ms. Suazo’s room, and they appreciate that. I’ve learned that at the end of the day they want someone who is real and who truly cares as their teacher and mentor; I hope to continue being that for them for the entirety of my teaching career.
My Project
These laptops would give my students the opportunity to practice their typing and research. They have to take their standardized exams on a computer and many do not have access to them. For some of my students, the only opportunity they have to use a computer is if they have one to use in school. These laptops would be used during small group instruction where I will prepare my students for the future. I will teach them how to properly type an essay, how to include their sources and how to find credible sources online. The times are only getting more technologically advanced, so its time to set my students up for success.
