My students need 5 Chromebooks to take them beyond the walls of our classroom and prepare them to be successful in this 21st century learning environment.

My school is in an urban school district with more than 10,000 students in 22 schools. There are 207 students. 96.4% are African American, 3.1% are Hispanic and 0.4% are Caucasian. The median household income is $36,978. According to City-Data, 89.8% of residents are below the poverty line. According to the research, "Student in technology-enriched environments experience positive effects in achievements in all subject areas and....students learn more in less time." Thus, with a deficiency in technology equipment, implementing instruction can me limited.
I share a classroom cart of 25 laptops with three other classrooms (average of 18 students in each class).
The goal is to have a paperless classroom while enhancing students' performance and building a supportive relationship with families and the community using Google Classroom.
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it it the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world." David Warlick
During this 2018-2019 school year, students in grade two will have a 2:1 technology to student ratio. Students have been taking turns using aging MacBook laptops during daily instruction. While we are grateful to have access to approximately 8 laptops, more technology is needed in order to implement our daily curriculum particularly in literacy and mathematics. Incorporating more technology into the classroom with the use of Chromebooks will help engage all students while enhancing overall student achievement. A 1:1 technology to student ratio will be the first step towards becoming a "Future Ready School." Chromebooks are digital technology that will engage students in learning and creating a hands-on learning environment.
