My students are faced with challenges throughout their daily lives. Our school serves many low-income families, and many students face struggles both in the classroom and outside of it.
Despite these challenges, my students WANT to succeed.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) assists these students to learn skills that will promote their success in middle school and eventually college. Our AVID family consistently demonstrates the desire to be a role model throughout our campus, excited to participate in community activities, and ready to learn new and challenging material in a personalized learning community.
Despite the personal or academic challenges they may face, these students have made the choice that they want to engage in rigorous course work that will challenge and prepare them for the future, especially with regards to reaching collegiate goals.
We've seen an influx of technological needs as more families displaced by Hurricane Maria enter our school. It's stretched our ability to provide for our students the way we wish to thin. Our classroom is interactive, collaborative, and welcoming. These students want to set an example across the school for their abilities to succeed in rigorous coursework, organization skills, time management capability, and an openness to helping.
My Project
The items I am requesting will allow my students the ability to conduct research, improve their writing skills, and learn more about the colleges and careers that interest them. Chromebooks will specifically allow my students to complete projects centered around achieving their collegiate and career goals. The Chromebook charging station will be utilized immediately to improve their analytical skills.
Many of the students at our school were also affected by Hurricane Maria.
These families are struggling immensely and providing technology in my classroom to help ensure academic success for my students is one less item that students and parents alike need to worry about. The Chromebooks we have will help improve authentic literacy in my classroom by providing the students skills that are useful beyond the classroom and with information that prepares them for success in their future. The Chromebook charging station will provide a safe location for the Chromebooks in my classroom to charge and store these exciting items. It will help my students utilize them appropriately and easily as well.
