I am a special education teacher. My students have a wide variety of needs. They come from a diverse demographic background and have emotional/social challenges and some academic deficits as well.
The greatest area of need for my students is access to technology.
Due to limitations of their home lives, many of my students do not have access to technology outside of the school environment. The ability to access technology will enable them to be more prepared for higher education, as well as be a productive member of the workforce.
My Project
Our district is going to a 1:1 device environment, however, our school has not reached that point yet. Many students continue to struggle to have consistent access to technology. This lack of consistency impedes the education success of many of our students.
As our community moves towards a more technology-rich environment, many students are left out due to the lack of availability.
Many of our teachers, myself included, are expected to incorporate technology into our lessons, such as the use of Google Classroom. My students would benefit immensely to have consistent access to technology through the use of Chromebooks. Having this access will allow for assignment completion, access to programs to further develop skill sets, and connect with their community.
