My students need laptops in order to cultivate the skills needed for 21st century learning. All of the state tests are now computer-based, and so many students lack the computer skills to be successful.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are struggling 9th graders. They typically come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds with limited access to technology. n my 6 years teaching, the struggling students also have trouble typing their essays into Microsoft Word or other word processing programs. Students are not successful on state tests when they have to use technology.
Because the new Florida Standards Assessment test is on the computer, students who don't have regular access to computers struggle with the stamina of staring at a screen for long periods but more exposure will help them be more successful.
My Project
Students have grown up in a digital world and cannot remember a time when there wasn't a computer in their homes. But, this doesn't mean that students understand how to use those computers. In a world where students spend more time on their phones than talking to one another, there is a disconnect.
My students need to be able to improve upon their computer skills to not only be successful on the computer-based state tests, but they need to be prepared for life beyond school.
Having computers available for them in the classroom will make the transition from high school to life or college at least a little bit easier.
The Common Core State Standards are all about "college and career readiness" but 21st century employers are looking for people who have technological skills. Many kids do not know how to use a basic computer.
Our district prides itself on "preparing students for life" but without technology in the classroom, we are failing them
