Technology for Teens: Chromebooks for Cultural Literacy!
My students need 3 Chromebooks in the classroom to access their writing, work collaboratively, and learn appropriate word processing skills. Many of my students do not have access to this technology outside of school.
My students come from very diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. My students are hard working, diligent, and driven. Manchester, NH is a designated refugee community and many students are first generation Americans and/or English Language Learners. What my students lack in classroom resources and materials, they make up for in their enthusiasm and passion for learning. It is so rewarding working with such an enthusiastic and determined group of young people. Some of my proudest moments are watching my students walk across the stage at graduation knowing that they are the first in their family to achieve this milestone. Knowing that a child is the first in their family to attend college is one of the proudest moments I have had as an educator.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to computers or technology both in or outside of the classroom. Lack of access to technology seriously impairs a child’s ability to complete assignments on time or if at all. By allowing all students access to technology, all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, have the tools necessary to succeed. Chromebooks in the classroom allow me to prepare students with the skills necessary for the 21st century. Chromebooks in the classroom will allow my students to use technology for multimedia presentations, to research, and learn the word processing skills necessary to succeed in both higher education and the workplace.
