My students face many difficult challenges in and out of school. Many of my students, 75%, receive free or reduced lunch. Historically, our school has been a low performing school in our state - but we are changing that! It is an exciting and empowering time for teachers and students alike at our school! Despite all of our challenges, my students come to school ready to learn and are excited to be there. They are incredible kids that are on a mission to be successful and make their dreams come true and I will do anything and everything I can to help them achieve these goals!
My Project
My fifth-grade students are eager to learn all about science and social studies topics. To help bridge the gap and provide equal opportunities for all students, I am working toward providing a one on one device within my classroom. Many of my students, 75%, receive free and reduced lunches, many do not have access to the internet or technology at home.
Having technology for each student, will allow students to have immediate access to current lessons, research content, and utilize a wide array of resources, literally at their fingertips.
This project would help bridge the gap and would allow my students to be better prepared for their future in the 21st century. Walk into our room and you'll hear keyboards clicking, chat boxes dinging, and YouTube videos playing. Are my students off task? NO! They are using Chromebooks to meet their individual needs, build collaborative skills, and gain the necessary technical knowledge to be successful in the 21st century.
I use a wide variety of instructional methods and having Chromebooks will only enhance their learning by providing each student the chance to have a more individualized approach.
