This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are excited to be using more technology in the classroom, but some of our equipment is becoming outdated and several of our computers do not have the capacity to complete the editing and publishing we need.
My students are from a wide-range of backgrounds, but mostly lower economic families.
Most are classified as free/reduced lunch students, as well as single parent or grandparent homes. They are really excited to learn, but don't always have the opportunities to create and publish reading and science fair projects, as well as a class newspaper.
My Project
The students would be allowed to take write articles for a class newspaper and print them. We would be able to write and publish poetry, narratives, and non-fiction reports, as required by Common Core standards. The students would learn computer skills, as well as publishing skills.
If we were given donations to purchase the laptop and printer, the students would learn valuable job-friendly skills to use later in life.
Cooperation would also be a key factor. The use of this technology would also add excitement to our regular lessons!
