Help me give my students Amazon Fire 7 tablets for interactive and supplemental learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My middle school is categorized as one of the lower performing schools in the county and is in need of extra support and assistance for our students, who all experience high levels of poverty, violence, and educational inequity.
The majority of my students will either be the first or in the first generation of their families to attend college.
Statistically, African Americans, boys, and students whose parents had less education were more likely to be suspended or expelled. Students who prepared more for their classes, spent more hours on homework, and aspired to higher academic achievement were less likely to be disciplined at school. Helping students engage in school may be protective against disproportionate school discipline. Only 27% of them will graduate college within four years (compared to 42% of students whose parents graduated from college). But not our students—we all aspire to go to college.
Technology is becoming more relevant in the classroom. There are many ways I can and will incorporate the use of these tablets in my classroom. There is an abundance of high-quality educational apps that my scholars can use to supplement learning. In addition to educational apps, there are also many virtual labs that would help enhance the hands-on experience that many of our students do not get to engage in.
Using a variety of virtual labs, we can use the tablets to allow students to explore and engage in scientific inquiry to better understand the content presented in the lesson.
We can also use the tablets for quizzes that allow students to receive instant results. Instant results allow the teacher to tackle misconceptions early on in the lesson. Tablets also make it easy to watch videos that are relevant to what students are learning in the classroom. I can also use tablets as a classroom management tool, such as offering game time as a reward. Tablets can also give me the ability to adapt materials to meet students' IEP needs (such as visual and audio features).
