This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a middle school ranging from grades 6-8 located in West Harlem, with many of our students receiving free/reduced-price lunch. The students come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and many of the students are English Language Learners.

My students are intelligent and hard working, despite the many challenges they face from day to day.

They enjoy hands-on learning experiences, opportunities to be creative, and taking on academic challenges. I want to provide them with everything they need in order to be successful learners.

My Project

I am requesting an Apple iPad and matching Apple pencil in order for my speech and language students to work on their literacy skills in a meaningful way.

Having access to an iPad will open many doors for speech and language students.

We will be able to use apps to work on phonological awareness, set up assistive technology to predict spelling and help with word retrieval and even use the Apple pencil feature to draw quick visuals while working in class.

Technology opens many doors, especially doors for communication. Help my students have their opinions, voices and ideas heard during the most formative years of their lives.
