Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are full of the type of enthusiasm only 8, 9, and 10 year olds possess. They are eager to learn, share, and work with others if it means making a positive impact on their communities (whether it be classroom, school, or neighborhood). They thrive when appropriately challenged, and the high expectations they consistently meet are the best indicators for just how far their successes will take them in life. For now, they should feel a sense of pride for how hard they work, despite factors that do not always make that job easy.
My Project
All children seem to possess an innate passion for science and engineering, but all too often that passion is repeatedly trampled and whittled away at until little of it remains late in a student's educational journey. While younger students are likely to list science as one of their favorite subjects, many older students dismiss it as too difficult or uninteresting.
With your help, I aim to ensure that my students develop a strong foundation for a lifelong love of science.
The items you would help support in this project would go a long way toward bringing out the creative thinker and problem solver in every student. The STEM bins would give all students in the classroom the opportunity to think flexibly while solving problems, and the accompanying science related books will further stoke their young imaginations as they brainstorm and implement endless ideas. Lastly, access to robotics this early will send these students off to higher grades ready to demonstrate knowledge of a field many believe reserved for the most affluent schools or niche classes.
Your support would mean having these students walk off to middle school and later high school with a healthy appreciation for the expansive field of science and, more importantly, a greater sense of confidence in their own abilities.
