My students live in an urban environment. Many of them do not have the opportunity to see much beyond their own city. My goal is to teach our three and four year old students as much as I can about the world around them.
My classroom is filled with many opportunities for the children to learn through play.
Since the children are so young we focus on social emotional learning that includes recognizing feelings, how to speak up for themselves and calming down techniques.
Also, my students are being introduced to the alphabet by learning about how their names look and are spelled. For many of the children letters are part of a whole new world, therefore, we use many materials to reinforce the alphabet including having the children sign-in daily.
My Project
I selected two chromebooks for my classroom. We are in need of updated technology, our school computers are over 10 years old. My children will use the chromebooks to engage with educational websites such as Starfall.com, where they will explore the alphabet and mathematical concepts.
The chromebooks will also give the children a chance to learn how to navigate a mouse and the cursor on the screen to make selections.
A lot of children their age are only familiar with touch technology such as a smartphone or a tablet so this will open up a whole new opportunity for them.
