My first grade math and science students are full of imagination. I will always remember the excitement I felt going to the computer lab as a kid. It was a chance to experience something I didn't have at home. It was a chance to practice my skills in a new and exciting way!
Being a teacher in one of Florida's many Title I schools, I have the great challenge of providing my students the opportunity to experience various technology and resources they don't have at home.
As you may know technology can be so engaging and exciting for students however it is also very expensive. I do my best to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences but there is a limit to what I can do.
My Project
With the iPad tablets and Osmo learning systems students will be able to work collaboratively to complete activities from numbers and fact practice to composition with tangram shapes and even assistance with designing and engineering solutions to science tasks. Students will be able to transform the physical space on the table in front of them onto the tablet work area. The possibilities are endless.
My students are at an economic disadvantage.
Their families are struggling to provide everyday necessities. School is an escape for them. It is a chance to experience new things. With the Osmo and iPads they are gaining skills and doing it in a fun and engaging way.
Thank you for your support and helping me to provide my students with these new educational tools. There just may be a future engineer, mathematician or scientist who becomes inspired by this great new technology!
