My students need black and color toner refills for the classroom printer. Additionally, computer science students need more Circuit Playgrounds for our physical computing unit.
Our scholars amaze me everyday. Despite challenging situations, they come to school with a smile on their face. The culture at our school is that education is the great liberator, and our scholars are choosing that culture by attending and seeing it modeled in their high-class teachers. We are a magnet program within the large, public, urban school district with more than half of our students meeting the guidelines for free and reduced lunch.
Through the International Baccalaureate framework, our teachers are focused on inquiry and preparing students to not only be admitted to college, but to successfully complete their college education.
Scholars are focused on academics and look to us to provide enriching experiences they haven't received elsewhere.
My Project
Students are more excited about learning when they can utilize technology to create a product that looks sharp. Our students need black and color toner cartridges for the classroom printer. My printer is one of three in the building that can print color, and it's the only color printer in which all students have access. As a project based school, our students have many reports, pictures, graphs, and art to publish. When students can turn in a professional product, they are really proud of their work.
Using Circuit Playgrounds to prototype a smart device gets students very excited about computer science.
We are finishing up this year with a project that utilizes these devices, but the computer science program is growing next year, and we need more. With the demand for coding across many industries, we are preparing our students for jobs that may not even exist yet.
