Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are joyful children who come to school eager to learn. Although we are virtually, their enthusiasm for learning still persists. My students are resilient learners who reside in an area that is being hit hard by the pandemic. This means that many of my students continue to experience the systemic oppressions that further develop through a pandemic. These oppressive systems range from lack of access to healthcare to food insecurity. Due to the marginalization of our community, our area is at high risk for COVID-19.
Although my students continue to face adversity, they have shown resilience in the face of obstacles.
My students come to school everyday to become critical thinkers and reflect about the world around them. All of my students prioritize their education and know that daily access to an inclusive curriculum is vital. My students have a hard stand on what justice is in this world and know that highlighting cultural joy is important. My students need access to a curriculum that values them and highlights their cultural joy.
My Project
This laptop will provide me with the tools to better support my students' learning. As we continue to learn virtually, this device will house our classroom. This laptop has all the updated software that contains the programs that we need to succeed virtually. This laptop is not only vital during distance learning but also as we return to campus. Through this device, I will be able to create lessons that are focused on fostering an inclusive environment. My students will be exposed to rich and engaging lessons that are culturally relevant. These lessons are not currently found in the curriculum we follow. It is up to me to provide lessons that fosters their 21st Century Skills through a culturally relevant lens. In order to bring these lessons to life, I will need a device that has all the programs to create content such as eBooks, presentations, images, and videos. It is important for my students to be provided with lessons that humanizes them. This laptop will help me integrate technology to learn about the joy of their cultural identities and highlight their narratives through a reflective lens. My students are eager to learn from a curriculum that is inclusive and has a hard stand against racism. This laptop will provide our classroom community with access to the technology we need to succeed.
