Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Confident, ambitious, rambunctious, empathetic and hilarious, these are a few of the many adjectives I would use to describe my talented change makers. My change makers come from a vulnerable part of the city and face a range of obstacles that can hinder their ability to learn. Despite what they go through, they continue to impress me with their drive.

I am raising warriors, warriors who come to school not only to surpass the high expectations set for them but to do so without excuses.

My warriors come to school as warriors, trying to battle a slew of challenges ranging from hunger, homelessness and a lack of support at home. However, when you walk into my classroom, it would be hard to identify which child came to school hungry, which child did not get enough sleep last night, or which child witnessed something violent in their neighborhood.

As warriors, they are trained to overcome obstacles to reach their full potential. They do not make excuses and take every failure or challenge as an opportunity to become better learners and citizens. I continue to be impressed by their hard work, imagination, and drive to be the future leaders of the world.

My Project

I am requesting one Touch-Screen Chromebook so that my students have access books online and learning games. There are over 65,000 education apps designed to help students master a wide range of subjects/skills that are directly tailored to each child's individual learning style. Having access to this many learning apps gives my students another way to learn.

Students love playing computer games on the Touch-Screen Chromebook and Amazon Fire Tablet.

Blending their passion for technology and learning will not only encourage them to study and learn but it will also incentives them to finish their work and/or behave well so they have an opportunity to use it.

We are starting a research unit on animal habitats, as of now, students do not have access to a working computer in the classroom in order to investigate our topic deeper. These resources will ensure students have access to a wealth of learning resources that you can only find online. I do not want my student missing out on critical research opportunities just because they don’t have access to a computer in the classroom.

In general, my students have limited access technology at home and because of this, they have limited access to research and online discovery. I want to expose and equip my students with the technology they need discover new things.
