Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Kindergarten class is beyond amazing. We are all from different areas of Central America and the Caribbean. I have 25 energetic and self-motivated students who aspire to be future doctors, firefighters, and ninjas with the culturally rich values they bring from their countries and the strong educational support they will receive in their new country.
The students come from very low socioeconomic households and coming to school is an escape from some economic hardships.
The goal is that the students have a safe and welcoming learning environment. The students deserve a place like our classroom that focuses on learning rather than on things out of their control.
My Project
My students are becoming little by little more proficient in the English language. As we may all know learning a new language and culture can be extremely overwhelming and fustrastrating. The hardest part is trying to learn with out the resources or equipment.
As more student migrate to the United States and into our classroom the exsistant technology experiences more wear and tear and the availbilty for the students to access the computer becomes limited.
At times its impossible to have all the student to experience time of learning on the computer due to the shortage of computers available. English learning students need computers access in order to have visual and audio support in learning the language. The largest struggle right now is the vocabulary words for math and reading. If new computers and listening center equipment were availble they would be able to match the vocabulary to the pronounciation and to a visual image.
