Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My awesome 6th, 7th, and 8th grade scholars are ESL learners. Of my four classes, I have one class where students only speak Spanish. Despite their limited English, they come to school with eagerness to learn and succeed. It may be challenging to them, but they keep believing in the power of learning.
I teach at a Title I school in Houston where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Most of my kids belong to economically disadvantaged families and are newcomers to the United States.
My Project
Technology in the classroom has offered a world of possibilities to the students to learn in many creative ways. Tablets, specifically, offer more engagement and learning opportunities to students. Also, the use of tablets fosters independent learning and collaboration with the teacher and other students.
My students will have individualized learning through the use of another tablet, which will help them track their progress and do intervention to be successful in the classroom.
I have newcomers and ELLs in my classroom, so this tablet will greatly aid them to learn English in many innovative ways. Listening to audio books will help them with pronunciation and comprehension. Online books will develop their vocabulary reading skills by answering the assessments after every reading. Also, being exposed to articles and texts online will enhance their visualization and inferencing skills, develop critical thinking, and help them learn lessons that can be applied to real life.
