My students need more technology in the classroom to help them meet some of their early literacy and math goals. The Samsung tablet will also be used by teachers for streamlining student assessments.
My pre-k classroom is the first school experience that most of my young students have. They are so excited about learning and coming to school every day, and this enthusiasm for learning lays the groundwork for a lifetime of success! I teach free PreK at a Title I School in the School District of Philadelphia. We provide three free meals a day for our students and we have strong partnerships with our families. This helps ensure the children are getting the best education possible and the families have what they need to support their children. In my classroom, we spend a lot of time learning through play and learning one-on-one and in small groups. My students love having new materials and activities to explore and they learn best when they’re using their hands. Thank you in advance for helping to make our classroom a better place to learn!
My Project
My pre-k students need updated technology in the classroom. We currently only have one old desktop computer for student use.
Getting new tablets will expand my students' opportunities for repetitive practice with their early literacy and math skills.
To get our kids ready for kindergarten, we focus a lot on their letter recognition and identification, as well as their letter-sound knowledge. There are many wonderful apps that help the students work on these skills in a multi-sensory way. Additionally, there are apps like Epic! that have thousands of ebooks and audiobooks for my young students to access. This allows me to expose them to more than just the books I have in the classroom, which encourages a love of reading. The more the students read, the better readers they become!
This new technology will also serve to streamline our student assessment process. Since our students are so young and we utilize a mostly play-based curriculum, the majority of our assessments are based on observation. My assistant teacher and I will be able to utilize the Seesaw app to create digital portfolios for our students. This will make it faster and easier to assess our students' needs and cater our instruction to those needs.
