First grade students come ready to learn foundational reading skills. Reading is at the heart of our instruction and it is implemented in every way possible, including through technology.

Our classroom community resembles that of a family. Throughout our day, we learn what it means to care for one another and treat others with respect. I frequently use flexible seating that allows my students to sit where they feel most comfortable, ready to learn, and successful. Students have access to technology several times a day, and are able to bring their technology with them when at their "comfy spot."
My Project
Thanks to previous Donor's Choose funding, I was able to receive 2 iPads for my class reading instruction, plus I have one iPad of my own that I purchased for my students. I wanted to protect these precious iPads with durable cases that are kid-friendly. We use our iPads so frequently that protection is very important.
In addition to iPad mini cases, I will use a set of Boogie Boards during guided reading instruction. The boards will allow us to easily interact with our guided reading text. They will allow students to take notes and process their reading in an easy and fun way. The easy-to-use boards will reduce management issues, as the board will be cleared-off with a touch of a button. I know my students will be thrilled to use these when they are reading!
This new technology will help engage my students in the reading process.
Young learners often struggle with writing. Interactive white boards will allow my students to easily write and will be easy to manage. iPad cases will protect our technology so that it will be durable and last for many more years.
