Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

ASPIRE students are at-risk kids. These kids from really difficult situations. Many of them have full-time jobs, help parents pay bills, help raise younger siblings or have children themselves. ASPIRE students have for many reasons fallen behind in their grade level.

We have students that are homeless, have family members in gangs or prison, parents that are busy surviving day to day and can't help them.

The students are fighters and have realized that only education can improve their lives and future. ASPIRE allows them to make up two years in one, in order for them to graduate before they age out of the school system. Many ASPIRE students will join the military or go to technical schools, which will make them employable.

My Project

Many of my students do not have home access to any type of technology, which makes it difficult for them to do homework or catch up on work. Since most school districts, including ours, are using google classroom, the need for a laptop, Chromebook or computer is almost a necessity. I have seen them write a whole essay using their little phones.

Most of these kids have full-time jobs to help the family pay basic bills such as food, heat, electricity, etc., therefore it would never occur to them to spend the money on something like a Chromebook.

Please help me have an extra set in the classroom which I would be able to lend out to the neediest of these kids.
