Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach Emotional Support at an elementary school. My school is Title I with all students receiving free breakfast and lunch. My students live at or below the poverty line with little encouragement for furthering their education.

I would use any donations to assist my students in taking control of their own social and emotional growth and learning.

I firmly believe that any child can succeed if they are given the proper time and attention, tools, and positive role models.

My Project

In our classroom transitions are especially difficult. My students have social and emotional difficulties that sometimes make it hard for them to transition seamlessly before activities. They also have difficulty self-regulating their emotions and behaviors. Often students identify the computer as a strategy that assists them with this. Whether it be listening to a minute of a favorite song, looking at pictures of family, or using an online social and emotional learning program, having access to the computer helps them to make positive choices. By having wireless keyboards and headphones students are given the ability to take control of their own social and emotional growth.
