Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach civics to high schoolers in a low-income community. During the year, they get to write speeches and do hands-on projects that they feel passionate about what they aspire to change. Students are constantly trying to build equity within their communities.
My students are hardworking and insightful.
Their ideas never fail to amaze me. They are constantly innovating new ideas that can lead to a change in the community.
I graduated from the high school I teach at a few years ago and have returned to give back to my students as I know the struggles they experience from being from a low-income community in Chicago. I am excited about the future of my community because I know my students will be agents of positive change.
My Project
For this project, I am asking for 6 Chromebooks so my students can have easier access to technology in the classroom. Often time students work in groups of 4-5 and if I am able to have a Chromebook per group, it will help increase their learning and access to technology. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will allow students to have quicker access to technology for research and writing.
Increasing access to technology is essential for students in the 21st century to thrive.
I am asking for 2 iPads to be used by my ESL students. I have 1-2 students in every class who have very limited English. Although I am able to translate the material for those students, most of the time, oftentimes it is a struggle when the material comes from a book. With an iPad students can scan the document using the google translate app and the document will become more accessible for ALL!
I am confident that having more technology in the classroom will bring a positive impact on my students and make learning more hands-on!
