A typical day in our classroom starts off with a timer running before the bell rings. The students walk in and start on their warmup without being prompted. When the timer rings, the class leader asks the students to rise and reads a quote to be repeated by the class. That's when I finally step in.
I teach Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 to 9th through 12th graders in a small "school within a school." The larger school is one of the largest in the nation, but we have created a small school environment so that students can feel part of a community from the very beginning.
My Algebra 1 students are a combination of first-time Algebra students to some who are taking the class for the third or fourth time. My Algebra 2 students are in their third year of math. Each student is given a Chromebook by the school, so we are integrating technology into the classroom.
My Project
With a Dell 2-in-1 laptop in the classroom, I will be able to incorporate more interactive activities into the note-taking process. This will help engage more students and catch their attention. I also plan to use the Dell 2-in-1 laptop to use online resources, where students can each type in or choose their own responses. This will allow every student's voice to be heard, not just the most outspoken ones.
Donations towards a Dell 2-in-1 laptop in my classroom will allow my students to learn differently in a mathematics classroom.
Math is a subject that most of my students do not love. Many of them have been in the same class for many years. If they were unable to pass the first or second time, I want to make sure my class offers something different to help them pass this time.
