To be technologically savvy is a goal of our district but we don't have the funds to have the latest computer tools. I want my students to have the opportunity to try out new and exciting technology.
I have a wonderful group of 3rd graders of diverse backgrounds, 58% of those receive free or reduced lunch.
Our community is strong but many lack the resources to provide up to date, or even any, technology at home. Our school computers are old and often don't support the programs we need. Many of my students have a language other than English as their first language and struggle to understand and communicate with others at school.
My Project
I hope to use the tablets to introduce or support technological literacy. Our district has a goal that all children will be computer literate by the time they graduate. The tablets will be used to introduce and support this district initiative. Our tablets will be part of our whole day - reading, math, writing, social studies, etc - all across the board! They will be integrated into as many subjects as possible. Students will have the opportunity use the tablets as e-readers, for math games, or for research for science, social studies and health. Vocabulary will become crystal clear with the use of pictures and videos. Reluctant readers will be clamoring to use the fun, new computer. Math practice will become something to look forward to instead of dreaded. The ideas are endless!
My class is in desperate need of new technology.
By funding this project you will be giving some of my students their first experience with a current computer technology. The joy and excitement that will be generated by receiving these tablets will carry over into other parts of our lives and enhance our learning in so many ways.
