Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The children in my classroom are full of life, ready to learn and always excited about what's in store for them that day. We are part of a high poverty, Title I school located in a large suburban area. The population of the study body is very diverse.They are curious about everything. I find that one of the most important things I do as a teacher is to seize upon this curiosity and reward it. An excellent way to reward this curiosity is to bring computers and the resources of the internet into the classroom, and to teach students how to navigate and properly use the internet.
Integrating this technology into the students' curriculum and daily lives will give them a greater chance to reach their goals and achieve their potential in the highly competitive world we live in today.
Even though we are part of a large community our school works hard to achieve a close knit, nurturing, family environment. Each student feels safe and confident, allowing them to display their eagerness to learn and passion to achieve excellence.
My Project
Each one of my students has an amazing passion and determination to learn. They are a tremendous joy to teach as they willingly soak up each lesson I introduce. I'd very much like to take their lessons to the next level by incorporating technology into each subject. Using Chromebooks, I will be able to enhance each of their academic experiences by coupling it with real technology and create an environment that instills learning in their hearts. Because we are in a high poverty school, a majority of the children do not have access to a computer, laptop or tablet other than what we can offer them in the classroom.
Without computers, students lack the quick access to finding answers to questions and satisfying their curiosity.
If they don't have this access, there is the danger that both questions and curiosity will fade.
Providing these Chromebooks will give the children a chance to get hands-on, up close and personal experiences with technology that is used on a daily basis in the outside world. Our classroom currently has a projector which will be used with the laptop to inspire a love of learning and pride in students' work.
I am extremely excited to be able to increase students' technological literacy while increasing their academic achievements in all their subjects. Watching their eyes light up and their enthusiasm to learn is the highlight of my career. Please contribute to this request so I can continue to inspire and enlighten these wonderful children.
