The students I teach come from diverse homes, but they all share one thing: their love for learning. We live in a Kindergarten class of 31 individual students with varying home lives, learning capabilities and struggles, economical background, cultures, languages and the list goes on. I have students from Cuba, Poland, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Egypt. I have students that have lived their whole lives in the same house in the same city in Florida. I have a class full of silly kids, sweet kids, cute kids, little kids, big kids, creative kids, intelligent kids, kids that love learning to read, kids that want to learn subtraction and just every kind of kid you can think of, but one thing they all have in common is their desire to learn and be better everyday! I teach at a Title 1 charter school that focuses on teaching the whole child. We strive to nurture these special students of mine into well-rounded people with the tools they need for learning.
My Project
These iPads will be used by my students everyday! My students will use programs (apps) to practice letter sounds, formation and letter names in a way that engages the children of this 21st century. They will use apps also help them with number concepts, formation and more. My students will receive online lessons through I-Ready that will help them grasp difficult concepts that are being taught in the classroom. The list goes on! These iPad will offer my students an array of different programs (apps) that will enrich their learning substantially.
Giving low-income students access to new technology is an investment in their future.
I work at charter school in Florida that does not have the same funds as most public schools. Our school cannot buy the same amount of technology, but my students still deserve a well rounded education rich with technology. Currently we have 7 computers for my 31 students to share with another class of 27 students. I am hoping that these iPad will ensure that all my students' needs for technology is consistently being met, so that they can grow into well rounded, technology savvy adults that will succeed far in life.
