My students are from a small community in Northern California. They are amazing kids from working class families. Like most kids in 2nd grade, they love school! They are motivated, driven and are eager to succeed.
My students work so hard!
We are a close community with lots of family involvement. I have 25 students and as the year progresses, it is amazing to see them come together and support and motivate each other. As a teacher, I strive to meet my students where they are academically and to support and encourage the celebration of diversity present in our school.
My Project
We use our Chromebooks every day. There are so many engaging and interactive programs available to 2nd grade students! They are excited every single time we discover a new one! They work together to research topics we are learning about in class, work independently to master math facts in a fun, engaging way, and also sharpen their reading skills. There are so many wonderful programs available and I want my students to be able to use them to their full potential! Adding more Chromebooks to our classroom will get us one step closer!
In Second grade, we make the amazing transition from learning to read, to reading to learn.
It is truly inspiring to witness this. Having taught 1st grade and then moving up to 2nd, I've gotten to see kids go from sounding out the word CAT, to reading full articles about astronauts or arctic animals! I know part of their success comes from the availability of having high interest research topics right in the classroom! We have four, but we need more! I know technology makes a big difference!
