I am a teacher that teaches in a low income/high poverty, urban city, public school district. The scholars I teach come from low socioeconomic households and encounter home life challenges on a daily basis. Although this is true, they are absolutely capable of achieving excellence just like other scholars their age in a more privileged school and home situations. My scholars tell me all the time how much they love coming to school and enjoy learning. Their attendance this school year has been remarkable! It warms my heart to know that they want to come to school every single day.
They're bright, well behaved, and very enthusiastic children.
They never give up on themselves. When feeling frustrated with something, their growth mindset allows them to know they may not be where they want to be YET, but with time and practice they will get there. Their positive attitudes are infectious. Not only do they want to do well academically, they want their classmates to do well too. They have learned how to support their peers since the first month of school, and watching and hearing them in action is remarkable. They inspire me each day I step in the classroom.
My Project
The scholars I teach have limited access to technology at school and their home environment. My 2nd grade scholars deserve to have access to technology on a daily basis. It would be such a joy to be able to provide my scholars with access to technology with the help of the Amazon Fire Tablets I am requesting. This opportunity would enhance and support their reading, writing, and math skills they need to excel academically in the 21st century. Scholars will be able to access educational websites and applications such as Zearn, Raz-Kids, ABCya, Prodigy and more.
My goal is to create a classroom environment that will enhance their learning experience during the school day.
As we know, children can benefit most from technology because it engages and creates active learners, encourages individual learning and growth and helps develop higher order thinking skills. I greatly appreciate all the support with this project for my scholars.
