Help me give my students Ipads as they will provide struggling students the opportunities for practice and reinforcement, while also providing enriching experiences for students who are ready to go a step further.
My students are are a part of an urban community in Waterbury, CT. Our school is one of the few bilingual centers in our district, which means that some students receive instruction in both English and Spanish. This is an option for newly immigrated Spanish-speaking students who speak Spanish as their first language. Our class sizes are usually 20 students with one teacher. Our children come from diverse families with various educational backgrounds, cultures and incomes. Our diversity in all areas is vast and helps contribute to our school community.
My students come to me with a wide variety of interest, age spans and abilities.
My students are growing up as digital natives, yet our classroom are not outfitted in a way that allows us to cultivate the talent, interest, and desire to learn using 21st century technology.
Kindergarten is an important year in which children acquire the building blocks needed in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies that will support them throughout all their years of schooling. The foundation must be solid and strong in order to dive deeper and expand upon such concepts year to year. Ipads will be used in my classroom as a tool to engage students in new topics and reinforce important skills and concepts that will guide them to success. They will also help support those students who are lacking essential motor skills to maneuver a mouse on a computer. Having the touchscreen available on the Ipad will help those students achieve success.
This project will help change my students lives because it will allow me to help ensure every child is successful.
Not only will Ipads allow students to take control of their own learning, but they will help produce kindergartners that are confident and prepared when going to first grade.
