My students need the document camera alongside the projector to allow them to follow along with books as they are read aloud.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dr. Montessori told us, “The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self.” Our school works tirelessly to build lifelong learners who are intrinsically motivated.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners whose families are from Columbia, El Salvador, and other Central and South American countries.
The school's neighborhood is in a borough of Boston which is diverse linguistically, culturally and socioeconomically. Some of the students are just beginning to learn English. All of the children are warm, generous and eager-to-learn. Our school is our district's first public Montessori school. As such, we are committed to high achievement through Montessori’s time-tested philosophy and methods. Montessori’s pedagogy maximizes the child's intrinsic motivation to learn. In this way, the teacher serves as a guide to the child’s development: socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. The goal of the method is for children to grow into life-long learners and productive citizens of the world. We are a small, neighborhood school of less than 100 students. Most of the children walk to and from the school each day with their parents.
My Project
My students are aspiring readers and writers. Every day we read books aloud which they listen to and see pictures at a glance. By having the document camera and projector to project the text onto screen, my students will be able to follow along as I read and be able to study illustrations to make meaning from the text. I will be able to point out text features that all the class can see simultaneously. No longer will we hear a chorus of "I can't see!" The projector will also allow the screening of informational videos that bring life to the topics that we regularly study: family, community, health, the body, animal habitats, life cycles, plants, etc.
