Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every week I see all 450 students at our school as their classes come through our makerspace we call the IDEA Lab. Our students come from many backgrounds, interests, and abilities. What we all have in common is a desire to learn and a wish to have fun doing it.
My school is the youngest in our district from kindergarten to second-grade students.
This means we are the start of their learning adventure! So we created the IDEA Lab where a love of learning grows.
The IDEA Lab is a place where children can come in and tinker with items of their choosing. The goal is to provide materials that offer opportunities that invite creativity, and open doors for 21st Century learners.
My Project
My students and I had the opportunity to use OSMO tech in our makerspace with the starter set. OSMO created interactive games that allow the students to become part of what is on the iPad screen. They become so immersed in the activity that they do not realize how much they are learning.
"OSMO is a technology system that bridges the physical and digital worlds by taking game play beyond the screen." This quote from the makers of OSMO is a perfect summary of what OSMO is, and what it does for students.
OSMO allows for rigor and differentiation in ways that go beyond they typical learning of our letters and numbers. By actually using silicone Sticks & Rings, they are putting together letters or images with their hands and watching them come to life and interact with them on the screen. So I would like to extend our OSMO library by adding the OSMO Genius ABCs and Squiggle Magic.
Students are able to work alone or with a partner, and it's a low stress way to challenge themselves while having fun. I'm very excited to see the creative ways students will use the Genius edition. This project will allow my students even more opportunity to expand their technology and art experiences using technological tools that will be a part of their future.
