Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are brave, third graders that are excited about learning Spanish in a Dual Immersion classroom. These eight and nine year old students are hungry to learn about the Spanish culture and way of life in other countries. As Franck Smith said once, "One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way."
My students are highly motivated third graders with a passion for mastering Spanish and love incorporating technology in all areas of learning.
They know that learning a new language will open many doors in the future but at the same time, they are learning to accept others. They know that speaking a new language is hard, and although they have to be brave to try and learn, it is worth it. In our classroom we celebrate diversity where although others may look or speak differently, we are all still the same.
My Project
I teach Spanish Dual Immersion to Third Grade Students. We are always using technology to assist in our learning, however, we have very few resources available to us for daily use in our classroom. I am asking for four additional Chromebooks to allow my students more access to daily technology. These Chromebooks will enhance their education in many ways. First, we would have the opportunity to have enough Chromebooks for our math rotations. Currently, we have four Chromebooks but we need four more to complete a set for rotations. My students love accessing several resources for math online, but because of the limited technology, they are unable to utilize them effectively.
With these four Chromebooks, my Third Graders will have the opportunity to access Spanish books and resources, thus opening their minds and hearts to diversity.
Also, they will have the opportunity to listen to audio books online immersing themselves in the Spanish Language, improving their Spanish pronunciation and understanding. Reading just a single book while listening to the accompanying audio, even if they don't understand everything completely, will dramatically improve their "ear training' and familiarize them to the general speed and cadence of a native speaker.
