Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each of my 31 students come from a bilingual and lower socioeconomic background that poses many obstacles and restrictions to learning. Within my charter school we currently have a population of 98% English Language Learners. We currently have 60% of our students living below the poverty line. Many families hold multiple jobs and struggle daily with providing daily essentials for their children.
As their teacher, I must provide more than just an education for my students.
They rely on me for support, encouragement, and academics. I do my best to provide each of these to my students on a daily basis with the resources I have been given.
Our school neighborhood is very close to where students live. There is a close-knit community with teacher and parents. I do my best to keep an open communication policy with my student's parents.
My Project
My students currently do not have daily access to technology within our classroom. We have many online programs available to school but unfortunately do have the technology to access them. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will allow my students to have access to common core aligned online reading, math, literacy, and science programs needed to meet their grade level goal in a timely matter.
I want my students to be comfortable with technology and have the knowledge to use it appropriately within an educational setting.
The use of Chromebooks will allow them to read, type, research, and explore a different aspects of learning within my classroom.
My students will be instructed to use certain educational programs, as well as websites that promote reading, math, and writing. By the end of the school year, I want my students to be comfortable with technology regardless of their lack of exposure at home. My ultimate job is to expose them and allow them have hands on experiences with technology.
