My students are currently benefiting from using web applications and sites such as Edmodo or other educational blogging sites during class. However it is difficult when not every student has an Internet ready device.
My students are 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are high achievers.
They are part of our school's Academically Gifted program. All students deserve the opportunity to become technologically literate along with gaining reading and math literacy while at school. By having a variety of devices in our classroom, students will excel and feel comfortable interacting with technology in their everyday lives.
My Project
The next step in our journey is to obtain one more iPad 2 along with a leather case and stylus to increase the number of Internet ready devices that are in our classroom. This iPad 2 will be used to access the Internet, create presentations, type papers, read books, and of course use apps that will help them with areas that they may still be mastering. Although my students are high achievers there are still some areas that they need extra practice. The iPad 2 is very versatile and having enough so that students can work in small groups will be beneficial. My goal is to one day have enough Internet ready devices for each child to have his or her own so we can be a model 21st century classroom.
My students and their creativity amaze me.
Having another iPad 2 with case and stylus will allow them to showcase their creativity using a variety of applications. Being able to blog or use Edmodo to respond to various higher level thinking and problem solving will not only allow them to share their thinking with others more easily, it will reduce our paper consumption. This is important since our supply of paper and ink continues to shrink as the budget does each year.
