My Students

My school is one of the larger schools in NC and is a Title I school where many of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Expectations are high at this school and test scores are high. The environment is very inviting and friendly. Students at my school come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds, and many of my students have parents or relatives that serve in the military. Some of my students have not been on a vacation, and they learn about the world while in school.

My Project

My first graders love technology and they get so excited when they get to learn new things using the iPad and Chromebooks. In my classroom there are only 4 Chromebooks and 2 iPads and I have 20 students. Students love using the iPads no matter the subject. My students use the iPad to scan codes to learn about new information in science and they use QR codes to scan questions for reading. I have students that use the iPad for Imagine Learning and they use the iPad to participate in math scoots and to drive Sphero. My lower readers love apps on the iPad where they can follow along with stories and practice phonics skills. They use the Chromebook daily to practice skills across the content and they write stories using programs as well as listening to stories on Reading A-Z. My students love doing research. The problem that I find is that there are not enough iPads or Chromebooks for each of my students to use which makes it very difficult at times and adding one more iPad and Chromebook would make such a difference in my classroom.
