Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do not have it easy; they face a myriad of challenges. The majority of our students are English Language Learners. Almost all qualify for free or reduced lunch.
You have never seen such eager students!
They are bright, diverse learners. They are loving and respectful. They love their school and community. They are grateful and excited to be here every day.
The educators here are dedicated to giving all of the same opportunities to these deserving learners that others are afforded.
My Project
These students are wonderful. They are motivated to learn and respond extremely well to small group teaching. Their worlds open when they get that uninterrupted "teacher time." The hardest part is practicing independent learning when it is not their turn for guided reading or math. They need something a little bit extra to hook them and keep them engaged while they are waiting for their turn with their beloved teacher.
Let's face it; technology is the key.
This generation of learners are raised on it, crave it, and know how to use it. I want to put in their hands a tool that gives them choice but forces them into fun learning. It has to be an independent option.
I would like to add to our modest classroom collection of personal devices. The Kindle Fires are awesomely easy, sleek, and versatile. I like the option to control which apps my students can choose from so their work is subject-appropriate.
My kiddos can get "in the zone" and read some super e-books. They can play some entertaining games that sneak in phonics and reading mastery. They can get fluent on their math by practicing on some snappy math apps.
I also need a charging station and protective cases.
My students deserve fun and engagement! Let's give them something special.
