Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is the new key to learning. An iPad is an excellent way to begin to teach students about the world of technology. It's highly motivating and the learning opportunities are endless!
I teach in a Special Education Classroom in the City of Anaheim.
The disabilities in my classroom range from Autism, Other Health Impaired to Speech and Language Delays. I teach in a school that has a high population of low-income families. The school where my class is located has over 1100 students that are in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. My class consists of first and second grade students who are in a mild-moderate Special Education Class.
My Project
I am requesting 1 iPad and 1 case to use as a tool to learn letters and sounds as well as learn to read books online. An iPad in the classroom has endless possibilities. Just by its very intriguing nature, the iPad will motivate students to learn letters and sounds in reading, solving equations in mathematics and discovering interesting things in science. I can also see students getting excited about books online as well as learning Nursery Rhymes. There are some applications available on the iPad that I know my students will love including Disney's Hidden Treasure. The students are allowed to go to their favorite land (Aladdin, Mermaid, or Beauty and the Beast) and use their imagination to find clues to a hidden treasure. I can see my students getting so excited that they will want to write about their adventure. What a great motivator an iPad can be in the classroom, but it is not limited to just applications. I can see a multitude of endless possibilities where the students can create projects, record themselves performing poems, and then display them for the class to see.
Not only will my students be prepared for future technological uses of the iPad, but they will be confident in using it for their very own learning.
I can see that the iPad will create an environment where students take charge of their own learning and go beyond the simple applications that are available today.
