Help me give my students quality virtual experiences while maintaining proximity to my students. With an Apple TV and an iPad, I can move around the room and still maintain control of my projection.
I work in an environment charter school in Tennessee. Because we are a charter school, our students come from all over the city to be a part of what we have here. Students come here for several reasons - but the number one reason is that they want a different experience.
We are a small school, so we are all about fostering relationships with our kids.
Our kids get personal attention from the teachers. Teachers meet with them after school, attend their extracurricular activities, and join them for lunch. We work with our students on service projects outside of school, and take them on field studies for experiences they can't get at other schools.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences; some have been home-schooled, some have come from larger schools where they felt like they disappeared, some come here because they love nature and the outdoors. Wherever they are from, or whatever the reason they're here, they feel accepted at our school. That is a great place to start the learning experience.
My Project
Teaching history is a dream come true for me, but in a world where students are used to visual stimulation and entertainment, a standard textbook is insufficient. I have never been a textbook teacher anyway, so thinking outside the "book" is the norm for me. I love integrating technology in a way that brings history to life.
However, being attached to the front of my room next to a computer is not conducive to student engagement.
Proximity allows me to keep students on task, and that is achievable with an iPad and Apple TV. Manipulating the screen, allowing students to manipulate the screen - these are ways to keep my students engaged and excited about learning.
I hope that you will consider my request and help me to make my students' learning experiences more interactive than ever. Thank you.
