Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We all know that technology is something that is very beneficial in the classroom. I teach on the far east side of Indianapolis which is known as "Little Baghdad". My students don't have televisions at home, they don't have wifi, and don't have access to smart items. I want them to have the opportunity that people and schools with more money have. I plan to use the following items listed in this manner. The television will be connected to my apple computer and we will use it as a smartboard as much as a television. I envision having it up in my room to be able to use to show movies, videos, and some of our math antics. The google nest is something I would like to introduce to my kids so that they can come in and ask what is the temperature outside, ask it a question, play jeopardy on it, etc. AirPods and the apple watches will be used as rewards in my classroom. I have asked for two of each as I envision using them as rewards for my students who have completed all their work and scored the highest on their weekly math and or health test. I plan one set for girls and one for boys. It will be a huge privilege for them to be able to use "AirPods" instead of wired headphones and I would like to have the two watches used on Fridays as a "station" to read heartbeats, blood pressure, etc. Apple has changed the way that students learn. With the creation of the Apple Watch, technology has changed yet again. My students are looking to obtain these items in order to understand all that is available to them and to increase their understanding of new technology in the classroom.
