Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each student deservers a classroom where they can learn. My students are diverse learners in grades 1-4 from Humboldt park, a neighborhood on Chicago's west side. They are inquisitive, creative, and never stop learning. Each student has unique abilities and growths that need to be met, both academically and developmentally. Being a diverse learners' teacher means thinking outside the box when it comes to setting up a classroom to ensure that each student is set up for success. Every student is different and it's important to have opportunities for them to learn in a way that is best for them.
My Project
Students need access to technology to help them learn to read. Through this project, I will be able to get headphones for each student so that they can listen to the words as they read and do online activities. I will also be able to get materials needed for a more interactive day, such as whiteboard markers for the students, laminating sheets to make durable cards for independent activities, and alphabet cards with pictures to help them with letter sounds.
They will be able to complete activities on their own to build independence over time, as well as foster a love of learning with interactive activities.
Through these materials, students will learn skills to help their own learning, rather than just being told information.
